  2. Always try to make at least two words - for example you can add "jewel" to "ate" to make "late" as well as "jewel".

Memorize all of the two letter words.

Practice with a board set up at home where you play against yourself.  Use the scrabble dictionary to help you make the best word with the letters you have.

Aim to use a double or triple score every turn if you can.

Practice making seven letter words.  It is amazing how many seven letter combinations can produce at least one seven letter word.  See if you can download a copy of the word game "Anagrams" for practice.

Get computer scrabble and play it when you can.

Read the special lists of words for scrabble.  There are online sites and books to help you.

If you get a "u" keep it until the "q" is played if you can.

Know the letter combinations that go together - this really means knowing your phonics - blends, digraphs, etc.

Set up situations for yourself when the opportunity arises.  For example you may have a combination of letters such that you can set up the possibility of a triple word score in your next turn.

Use the letter "s" and "r" wisely.  They can often be added to a word to make a new word, so they are important letters.

Play carefully.  You have to try to prevent your opponent from getting triple and double word and letter scores.

Here are a couple of helpful links.  Best of luck!

  3. Try to catch a glimpse of the opponent's letters when you're returning from the bathroom.

  4. form double words by adding an S to a formed word and building off of that. works incredibly if the S is on a double word tile, since you get it on BOTH of the new words!

  5. Try to get all the high scoring letters and place them on triple score. Don't give away where you are going to put your next word and always think of adding onto a word with one letter then building another accompanying it.
