  1. read to them-

    engage with them-especially imaginary/pretend play-

    help them to explore

it's not about knowing facts and figures-it's about exercising teh brain with stimulating activities

  2. Read to them if they are young and have them read to you.  The more your children read, the higher their vocabularly levels, and thus, the higher their intellectual level.

  3. It is possible to encourage educational development hence increase intelligence from a very young age. Age approriate stimulation through books, creative materials and other literature, Work at level above what they already know my experience children become comfortable at a level they know and dont stretch their potential. As they go through school support and encourage extra currricular activities which assists focus and motivation in overall learning. The bottom line however is if a child doesnt wish to learn or have the approriate environment to facilitate learning they wont.  Take Care wish you well.

  4. Exposure is the number one thing you can do.  Help them explore and better understand their world with science and art museums, music and plays.  Talk about everything you see, talk about the historical context behind pieces you see.  In doing this, you can also develop vocabulary by introducing new words and rewarding your child for using them correctly.  Also, lots of problem solving activities can develop a child's ability to reason quickly and efficiently.  These can be verbal (word) puzzles, using tangrams to match/make patterns, number puzzles, etc.  Chess, Scrabble, SET, are examples of games to try.  Once a child gets proficient, add a time limit to force faster reasoning.

Expect your children to have strengths and weaknesses, we all have things we are good at, and things we need help with.  Don't forget some of us have more physical strengths and social strengths.  Don't try to squash these talents for more intellectual ones.  Remember enjoying life is important!Instead, use them to support higher order thinking.

  5. Everything said above...

disconnect the computer, Playstation and T.V.

get out of the house and go to free concerts, libraries and museums

respect their learning styles and their person

    discuss the things you see

don't be the one answering questions- be the one asking them to think things through-ask lots of questions "Where could we find out?" What do you think?" accept their answers and stop correcting their mistakes

have summer-camp at home: we used to pick a theme every week and make costumes and get books on the theme. Sometimes we would have dinner in costume or I'd make food which went with it. YOU don't have to be creative, they will be. Enrichment is the key. Encourage them to be unique, not follow the crowd and have diverse interests.

Make it fun or you will have rebellion on your hands!

  6. It depends a little on how old your children are. Intelligence is developed early on.

    Here are some suggestions.

-Have your children learn a 2nd language early on. This will not only help prepare them for the future but studies have indicated those who speak more than one language usually do better in other activities as well.

-Read to your children when their young. Teach them to read and have them read books. Have days where they can't watch TV and they have to read. This will improve their spelling, grammar, and intellectual capacity to follow logic.

-Have them read magazine articles, watch educational tv shows etc. This prepares them for the future and they will learn something during TV time.

-Help them with math early on so they don't struggle. Maybe have them do more complicated math early on.

-Talk with your children about events. Talk about events, science, philosophy, in front of them if they are too young to talk or understand. They will pick up a little of what you talk about and they will develop good habits.

-Have them learn a musical instrument.

-If they are very young there are toys you can buy however reading to them and doing what I described about will do just as much. Toys that cause your children to think help.

-Legos are an example of a good toy (when their old enough). Ones that require them to think are great. Wii and other games has some learning tools.

-A healthy diet is important as well. Studies have show for example that fish help in brain development.

-Classical music is supposed to help children as well when their developing.

To sum it up basically spend time with your kid when their young and reinforce good behavior.
