  1. Classically, by Gondola. Small Boats that are powered by people with large poles.

Okay, also .... Donkey, Cycle, Horse and VERY large Hamsters.

  2. They have no streets open to vehicular traffic.  One parks a car outside the city and takes one of several types of water vehicle into town.  A train station is also located on the outskirts; so you can boat to and from it as well.

    In town, you can use:

Feet...Venice really isn't that big that you can't walk most places.

Water bus...like the ground bus, they are on a schedule and frequently are crowded; but they are relatively cheap.

Water taxi...on demand and quite expensive, but they'll go anywhere you want, when you want it.

Gondola...romantic, but not a practical way to travel from point to point; and they are expensive.

  3. Beautiful, beautiful...but it does smell. Transport is by water, ferry, taxi, train or gondola. The gondola is not as romantic as it appears in the movies or in photographs and is very expensive. We used the water ferry to visit Murano glass island. Every thing seems to be located on an island. Each of the islands is about a twenty min. ride. I would not want to be out there on a rainy day. Amazing mask and wonderful glass. Visit St George Cathedral it is amazing....light a candle. If you get a chance see an Opera performance in Verona in the open air theater...can you imagine( if you are a fan of course). Have fun.

  4. They use

    Vaporettos(motor boats)

    Gondolas (man powered row boats)

  5. everything in venice is either by boat or by feet

  6. swimming is cheap.

  7. many people will say gondola, but unless you want to pay 200 dollars i would buy a ferry pass, or if you want to there are ways to walk everywhere, oh yeah and by water taxi, many are scams so be careful.  But ferries are the best way to travel next walking.
