  1. In my section of the country, a Dining Set is a table and four chairs.

  2. Dunno - is it American?  I  haven't heard of such things in England.

  3. Well now, in Canada, it means a dinner set for 4 or 8 and can be purchased anywhere from Ashley's high end to Wal-mart or K-mart  lower end but still very nice.  For a 4 piece set you can expect 4 large dinner plates, 4 smaller salad/fruit/bread side plates, 4 soup bowls/plates, 4 cups & saucers, sometimes just 4 mugs.  If you want 8 just double your order.  They also offer separately serving bowls, gravy boats, meat/fowl platters to add to the collection, as well, matching salt & pepper shakers & bread platters & butter platters. As well, there are matching teapots or coffee pots, cream pots & sugar dishes.

In the UK I find the dining set (or suite) refers to the table & chairs.  In dishes they refer to tea sets or dinner sets,  usually in 4 settings or 8, similar  to the Canadian version. and additions.   In the UK they usually consider an additional extra with a cake or pastry, scone tiered dish, they also offer dishes especially for serving, pies, puddings, cakes, vegetables or fruit.

At the moment I can't think of anything else, but you can be sure the minute I submit I will think of somethingl.
