Give my child a test to see where he is in school?

at home school I need to give my child a test between grades 1st and 2nd to see where he needs work on at home school?

yes and the question is  you always want them up to grade level even though we home school you still take tests like public schools

If your state requires testing, then yes, you need to do that. If it does not require this of you, then you do not unless you want to.

Is this a test required by law in your state?  If so, you should check out www.hslda.org for legal info on which tests will fulfill your legal requirements.

Is this test something you want personally for your own information?  Many curriculum companies that supply homeschoolers have placement tests for their curriculum.  If you have already chosen your curriculum for 2nd grade, call or e-mail or check out the publisher's website to see if they have placement tests.  If you have not yet chosen your curriculum, you may want to look for a publisher that has them, usually for a small fee.  Purchase the placement test first, then use the results to help you decide what level of their curriculum to place your child in.  I know that Alpha Omega has placement tests for language skills and Math, and they cost very little.  Usually you place your child in history/social studies the same level as their Language skills, and in Science they should be at the same level as their Math skills.  I hope this is helpful!

you should take your child to Sylvan. They offer an assesment test to see what grade level they are at, and wat they need to improve in.
