  1. If you haven't given them bank details, or sent them any money, then simply delete all of their e-mails and forget all about them. They are probably not operating anywhere near where you live, so you're quite safe if you forget that they even exist. They might send you a couple of follow-up e-mails, as they think that you're on the hook and will wire them cash. But ignore those too.

At this point, because there are so many scammers out there, reporting your case probably won't lead to anything. Authorities are more concerned with victims who have actually lost money. So consider this a lesson learned before it was too late. Good on you for wising up to the scam before you drained your life savings for these con artists.

And I would avoid reporting the scammer's e-mail account to the provider. For all you know, a real victim who's lost a lot of money has reported his or her case to law enforcement. If there's an active investigation, getting the e-mail account shut down will wreck everything.

Just forget all about them. That's the safest, easiest and best thing to do. And you can also warn your friends, relatives and other people you know about these types of scams. Educating as many people as you can will mean that these scammers have fewer potential victims. That's a pretty good way to keep people you care about safe...and mess up the scammers at the same time.
