  1. Shearer won the Premiership with Blackburn.

  2. I think you'll find that Keegan won them the old division 2 title and restored them to the top flight, and Shearer was in the squad that one their third of the Intertoto cup the other year...

You can't say that about any United or Chelsea players now, can you?

  3. Alan Shearer broke nealry every record at Newcastle i think, does that not make him a legend?  If not to anyone at least to newcastle fans,

Look how good Matt Le Tisser was when he played and he never won anything at Southampton - still a legend though

  4. Good Question, think Newcastle fans are fanatics with no real understanding of the success of the game: its is the football culture that makes them excited and alive: with Shearer and Keegan that had high peaks in the game 95/96 camping. i went to 99 FA cup final United s Newcastle and the way these toon fans supporting their team who was loosing 2-0 and didnt play any quality showed they no real understanding for success

  5. He,s not the messiah,he,s a very naughty boy!.

  6. Legend status doesn't depend on silverware, it's more about how the player/manager carries himself and how much sway they have over the fans.

Keegan is a Newcastle legend, because he wears his heart on his sleeve and he provides the style of football the fans want to see.  Also he took Newcastle from the bottom of what is now the Championship to almost winning the premiership (with the most exciting team the premiership has seen).

Shearer is a legend for following his heart, and joining the club he loves - and in turn the fans love him for that.

Mat (below) shows the traits of a glory-hunting supporter who chooses his team of choice by looking at the top of the league - and will never understand the joy of football.  It's not about winning silverware, it's about the journey.

Having been to the Emirates Stadium last week, it was a great experience but lacked real passion (it was only a small corner of the stadium where it looked like people really cared), I much prefer going to lower league games, where there are the same number of proper fans but with less of the plastic fans.

  7. Because they won things elsewhere.

    Not necessarily at Newcastle.

  8. Kevin Keegan is also a Liverpool legend :D

(#8 on official "100 Players Who Shook The Kop" list :))

Anyhow, he scored 48 goals in 78 games for Newcastle....that's a wowie. :O

  9. Legend status doesn't mean winning things it is about bring the best to the team.

Look at Harry Redknap, before last season, technically he haddn't won any silverware for pompey but it did so much for the club including getting them into the premiership in the first place. He is a legend and was before taking pompey to the FA Cup win too!

  10. Keegan won the European Footballer of the Year twice and picked up tons of silverware with Liverpool.

  11. Newcastle isn't all there is in the world of football
