If you could pick anywhere to bring up your children, where would you choose and why, UK only though.

  1. Perth.. It has a high standard of living, low crime rate and beautiful scenery.

  2. Sandbanks its got the best beach in the UK and lovely islands in Poole harbour with wounderfull views

  3. Well, I'm a Yorkshire lass by birth so I used to say I'd go back home (I'd love to live in the Dales or in York).

Then it was Cornwall, because it's just such a beautiful place.

But now it's Scotland (and NOT just because I've got Scottish ancestry) but becuase it's well-known that Scotland has the best mental healthcare in the UK. I spent 2 weeks in an Edinburgh loony bin (yep, I'm a loony!) and it was fantastic. The nurses were extremely caring, genuinely wanted to help; the shrink I saw was a complete sh*t, but he was English, so not surprising really...

I have recently spent 2 weeks in a Buckinghamshire loony bin - it was like a prison (we were even locked in our rooms at night!) the nurses were abusive, and fighting amongst the inmates (yes, inmates, we weren't patients) was rife (usually over ciggies).

So Scotland gets my vote (the bonus is that I can go to Shetland in the summer and almost experience a midnight sun).

  4. somewhere in the rolling hills of the pennines in Northern England

oh, on looking out of my window, i seemed to notice the pennine hills, it appears i'm already here :-)

  5. I would move to skegness if i could i love it there.

  6. Been there and its freezing.

  7. There was a TV prog recently about the best all round places to live in the UK taking into consideration various things like crime and quality of schools. I think Edinburgh came top, followed by Winchester in Hants and Epsom in Surrey (I may have got the order wrong).

I'd be happy to bring my kids up in any of these places!

  8. The Llyn Peninsula, North Wales...mainly Welsh-speaking, quiet, relatively crime-free. I don't want to make it sound too inviting, though...there are too many non-Welsh speakers here already without attracting more....so....Cornwall, Scotland, Yorkshire Dales are better bets.
