  1. The y-intercept occurs when x = 0 so replace x with 0 and solve the equation:

    y = 5(0) - 2

    y = 0 - 2

    y = -2

    in terms of coordinates: y-intercept is (0, -2)

    Similarly, the x-intercept occurs when y = 0.  Do the same thing you did before but this time set y = 0:

    0 = 5x - 2

    2 = 5x

    2/5 = x

    x-intercept in terms of coordinates is (2/5, 0)

  2. you can also graph this.

  3. y intercept is -2

    x intercept is 2/5.

    When y = 0, x= 2/5

    When x = 0, y =-2
