My son is turning 2 next month.

When and how often should he have milk?

At the moment I give it to him when he wakes and goes to sleep.

Is that a bad habit or should I stop?

  1. Milk is good for your son.  It is a good source of calcium and calories.  You can give him up to 24 oz. a day, according to my Dr's advice.  I give my daughter about 8 oz. for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.  Some times she drinks it all, sometimes she doesn't.

Definitely do not stop giving him milk.  Talk to your Dr. to see what they recommend and go from there.  Hope this helps!

  2. You are giving your baby the perfect amount of milk and at the right time. My son is 16 months and they say 8oz in the morning and 8oz at night only 16oz a day

  3. Milk is the best liquid you can give to anyone that is growing, especially a toddler...you know the saying "milk does the body good".  If you want him to grow with health bones and a  better immune system, milk is the way to go!  Better then some sugar filled "juice's".  Just make sure you give him what he needs.  Milk depending on what type, can be fating.  Also ask your Pediatrician for better understanding.

    Good Luck

  4. Unless your son has a milk allergy or is lactose intolerant, you are fine. It is best not to let him fall asleep with a bottle in his mouth, however. This will lead to him getting cavities. A glass of milk before bed, then brush his teeth. Milk actually helps a person relax and fall asleep easier. God bless.

  5. Make it organic. Check out NOTMILK.com. If he is getting protien into his diet, then reduce the milk, introduce him to yogurt instead(organic). Keefer(liquid yogurt) could be a treat. There are many sources of calcuium like in beans(beans and turkey franks), greens(cook them with a little olive oil, a touch of garlic(garlic expands taste), and little bit of apple juice to sweeten it a bit), Broccoli(olive oil and lemon), almonds(ground almonds can be put into pancakes and muffins)---There is so much info on the internet---or talk with a nutritionist and ask her for milk alternative.

Stop the wake up and going to sleep. Try giving him water instead. If he is going to sleep right after he drinks his milk make sure to take a wash cloth and wipe off his gums and teeth. MoM's and DaD's you can start that routine as early as a day old if you choose, but about 8mos is good. They learn to keep thier teeth clean earlier.

As far as milk is concerned for the fats the brain needs to develop-that is hogwash, by daughter (9) was allergic to milk, so I had to put her on Rice Dream and add oils to her drink. I used olive, walnut, sesame, grapeseed, and almond oil. She loved it. At this age it is easy to transition.

    Goodluck!
