Question:

Giving horse with ulcers Maalox or Tums?

Ok, so I have a pretty good suspicion that my horse has ulcers. He's cribbing/windsucking like crazy (he figured out how to get the crib collar off), he's attitude change has been pretty drastic in the past few weeks (HATES working and gets moody when before he was a pleasure to work), and his stool is softer than normal. Sound like ulcers? He's also a Thoroughbred and I know that they are prone to get them. Anyhow, a friend of mine told me that her Thoroughbred has ulcers and half an hour before she rides him, she gives him a Maalox tablet. She says his attitude changes pretty quickly and he's good to go. Should I try this? I know that calcium helps keep the "acid" down in the stomach so I figured Tums would be a safe way to go since its just calcium carbonate. Has anyone else tried this? I am very curious. I have already looked at actual horse ulcer medication and its very expensive ($40 for one dose?) Anyhow, so I figured I would try this before the more expensive meds...

  1. Guest 2079, I'm also curious about the Miracle Clay from Dynamite. Would you mind telling me where I could get it/who can I call/where can I order it? I'm new to this website and I can't find a way to email/contact you.
