I'm not starting yet but i have a hungry big baby on hungry baby milk that's 3 months (i gave him baby rice one day last week and stopped so i will hold out till 4 months as it's better for him) so with help from the health visitor i will be starting solids at 4 months.I would like to go on to veg from the off and miss out baby rice.Has anyone done this.I used baby rice with my daughter first but don't want to this time if poss as it has no real goodness in it so i was thinking of steamed veg. Any advice would be great thanks x

  1. I also started my son on solids at four months, he wasn't too keen on the rice and so we moved on to pureed veg, he particularly liked sweet potato and butternut squash!  Don't worry too much about the nutritional values of his weaning food, by the time you have cooked your veg enough to puree it there isn't much goodness left in it anyway, he will still get all his nutrition from his milk for mow.

  2. I say definitely veggies there is no chance of causing constipation from them, but pastas on the other hand..

  3. My Mom Always Told Me That She Never Gave Me Baby Food. She Always Ripped My Meats Up Into Small Pieces, She Cut My Veggies Into Small Pieces, She Always Gave Whole Milk Not Formula. She Only Gave Me Formula Until I Was 1 Month Old. I Ate Baby Food For Dessert Like Only The Fruits.

So I Think It Is A Good Idea

  4. I started with rice baby cereal. Really safe, rice is a diet food - you can eat plain rice even when you have upset stomach or diarrhea (that doesn't mean it will cause constipation!!). I had to be careful with new veggies and fruits cause both of my kids turned out to be allergic, so rice was so much safer at the beginning. If you do decide to try veggies or fruits do like somebody here said - try no more than one in 3 days or even better one per week. Bananas and carrots are really rare to cause allergies.

  5. ur baby will get it nutrition from the milk, i was told by health visitor to ween at 6 months and the aim is to get baby used to eating solids and not to worry about the nutritional content of food till baby off milk

  6. You can start with either the rice cereal or bananas or peas (whatever single fruit or veggie in thr stage 1 category)  Just make sure you onl feed your child one of these for a  3 day period so you can watch for allergies.  Then you continue like this until you have tried them all.

  7. The cereal is just to get your baby used to the texture of the food and the feeling of it being in his tummy. I'd start with carrot because it is naturally sweet. Try mixing it with a little baby rice for the first time so it is a little more bland. Steaming is a good way to cook veggies for sure. Make a few days worth at a time by freezing it into ice cube trays.

  8. whatever works for you and bub is the best answer. start with the tasteless veg like potato and work towards more flavours. they just need enough to fill their tummy. don't stress if bub doesn't want to do it your way, just go with the flow and things will work out - eventually!
