Gladiator tactician Chris Larson satisfied with 2012 52 Super Series proceedings – Sailing Update
Spectators present at the Barcelona waters witnessed some outstanding sailing competitions in the 2012 52 Super Series where the American team of Quantum Racing was victorious with 14 points. Meanwhile, Great Britain’s Gladiator, which was one of the top
contenders to win the regatta, claimed the fourth podium place with 29 points.
Gladiator was not able to improve their standing position as they started on lower podium finishes from the first day until the final day. They failed to improvise during the tournament and tumbled down in the overall result board. Gladiator tactician Chris
Larson is still satisfied with his team’s performance.
Speaking to the local media, Larson said, “The Barcelona event has been a good one for us. This is my third event now with the team and it is quite and improvement and things are going along much better, we are sailing more consistently and at a higher level,
so that is really good. Even at 16-18 knots of breeze on the second day.”
He added, “We were right in there and competitive with these guys until the finish gate. It is kinda tough racing against newer boats with full pro teams, but we are doing the best we can and it is getting better and better and it is a lot of fun.”
The 2012 52 Super Series was won by the American team, Quantum Racing who clinched three bullets and a couple of higher positions to occupy the leading position.
The weather conditions were quite fascinating in the beginning gusting around 18 knots over the Barcelona waters but in the final days, the winds were not promising and the fleet had to miss the final day proceedings which formulated the final results and
made Quantum Racing the winner of the event.
Overall standings at the end of the regatta:
1. Quantum Racing (USA) 3, 3, 3, 1, 2, 1, 1 = 14 points
2. Audi Azzurra Sailing Team (ITA), 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 2, 3 = 14 points
3. Rán (SWE) 2, 2, 1, 3, 1, 5, 2 = 16 points
4. Gladiator (GBR) 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 4, 4 = 29 points
5. Audi Sailing Team powered by ALL4ONE (GER/FRA) DNC, DNC, DNC, 5, 4, 3, 5 = 35 points
