Gladiator’s owner Tony Langley delighted to gain early lead at 2011 Audi TP52 World Championship
Great Britain’s TP52 yacht, Gladiator, made a good start at the 2011 Audi TP52 World Championship grabbing an early lead at the end of Day 1 in the region of Sardinia. Owner/helm of Gladiator, Tony Langley, is delighted with the team’s performance on Day
1 and he appreciated his crew members, American tactician, Chris Larson and Spanish navigator, Nacho Postigo, for their hard work.
Despite a leading place, Gladiator still has a long way to go, as they have not been on waters for a long time, as they did not participate in any 2011 Audi MedCup Circuit event after the first tournament. America’s Quantum Racing is one of the tough contenders
they will have to face on their way to the top. Quantum Racing is currently on second place in the standings with four points after the first day.
Meanwhile, Spain’s Paramount Park Murcia is at third position with six points and a little hard work can take them higher in the podium standings. The second day will be a lot tougher and full of excitement. Tony Langley and his crew will be looking forward
to retain their lead. For now, Langley is quite happy with their success in the tournament and hopes for a better result in the end.
While speaking to local media at the end of Day 1, Langley said, “We were delighted with the third and really were not expecting a bullet in the second. We had a very good start in the second race. It was so important today. The last race was to get a good
start, lead around the windward mark and then extend.”
He further added, “I have not spent much time racing here, but have been here a bit. I daren’t even think about wishing to win a race here, far less even considering winning a world championship, we take every race as it comes. We are OK in 10-15 knots but
sub 10kts is usually difficult for me.”
