Glamorgan aim to keep Harris
Glamorgan have stated their intent to keep young fast bowler James Harris at the club for his immediate future.
Harris is one of the rising stars of cricket in England and Wales and many are tipping him to make the England team in very little time. He has been linked with a large number of big English counties as sides are looking to snap him up on a long contract.
However, Glamorgan hope he will sign on at the club and give back a little loyalty to the system that has seen him break into the Glamorgan first time. This has subsequently led to an England Lions call-up for the player.
Harris has many attributes that would make him successful in any side. It's important Glamorgan try and keep him for as long as possible before he inevitably makes the move to a bigger county that would allow him to push for a place in the England side.
Harris' attributes
Harris is a very young, raw and fast bowler. His pace is frightening and this is why he is such a highly rated young player. Genuinely quick bowlers at a very young age are very difficult to find and his pace is only going to increase as he moves into his early and mid 20s.
Harris is a very aggressive player and this has already been seen in the games he has played for Glamorgan and the England Lions. This has got him in a little bit of trouble but this is encouraging to see from fast bowlers because intimidation can play on the mind of a batsman.
He's a very young and raw player who can be turned into something much more refined. He has a great action and this is important because it means it should not lead to injuries that are going to limit his progress.
Glamorgan director of cricket Matthew Maynard said: "Hopefully James is going to stay a Glamorgan cricketer for a long time. If we lose any of our young talents to other counties we are going to be hurt by that. We had meetings prior to the season, but unfortunately we could not come to an agreement on a new contract. His father asked we don’t talk until the end of the season and I respect that."
Glamorgan's future
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784 must fight as hard as they possibly can to keep the player at the club because he is vital in terms of the next generation of players. He will replace the older bowlers of the side and become the figurehead of any future Glamorgan attack.
If they allow him to leave without putting a very good contract offer in front of him then it would be a very naive move by the club. Many people are tipping this player to get an England place within the next two or three seasons.
Harris added: "My contract is up at the end of next season and we will have to sit down and discuss that. I have made it clear I love playing for Glamorgan, but I want to play for England. I will do whatever is best for myself in playing for England whether that will be here at Glamorgan or even possibly somewhere else."
Betting advice
Glamorgan are never going to win a domestic competition because they simply lack the depth of playing staff required to do so. Harris is their diamond in the dirt and they must keep him. He is capable of taking five wickets in any game if you are looking for a player to back regularly.
