Glamorgan fear low turnout for today’s Test between England & Sri Lanka
As England and Sri Lanka are going to start the first Test of the series at Cardiff, the venue organizers, Glamorgan county club, fear lack of response from the people whose interest is engaged in Football and Rugby now-a-days.
Despite the fact that the English http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Willey-c81951 play a 5-day game after a long gap, there seems to be low sale of tickets. The English played their last Test against Australia in Ashes 2010.
Talking to the media here on today, the Glamorgan chairman, Nigel Roberts, said, “It is difficult to sell out international cricket in May when people are still thinking about football and rugby.”
Moreover, there is a bank holiday in England and the game lovers are out of station for recreation.
Roberts told, “http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in May on a bank holiday has been a different proposition for us and there are lots of reasons why we might not expect capacity crowds.”
It is going to be just second Test game of England at this venue. The first one was played in July 2009 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
Roberts argued, “This is new territory for us because this is only our second Test match.”
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mal-Loye-c1879 thinks that it is a great honour for them that Team England has selected this venue to play.
The stadium has a seating capacity of 16, 500 but enough http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cameron-James-Borgas-c49157 haven’t been sold yet.
Roberts also recalled the experience of two-year old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 that attracted just 5, 000 spectators.
However, he opined that if they got 10, 000 during the first three days of the Test, it would be a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Griffith-c919 success for them.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784 crew has done a lot to market the game and they hope to make more sales as the series progresses.
The major concern for Glamorgan is that they have invested a lot of money for this Test and the return is very low as of now.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-James-Muchall-c60376 money for this match and we are trying to do the best we can in mitigating this impact.”
Another country club, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789, has also bid a huge amount for the 3rd Test and they also fear to suffer loss.
