Glamorgan sign Henriques for the first phase of 2012 season - Cricket News Update
Glamorgan County Cricket Club on Tuesday signed up Australian all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-North-c1982 for the first part of the 2012 county season.
North, the 32-year-old middle order batsman from Victoria, will be unavailable to the county as he is recovering from an injury to his right little finger, and is also expecting the birth of his second child in the next couple of months.
In his absence, the Dragons have snapped up Henriques, as cover for the first half of the season.
Henriques, the 25-year-old Portugal-born all-rounder, made his One Day International cricket debut in October 2009, during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and played only two ODIs during the tour. He has been waiting for a call up to the
national one-day squad ever since. His sole T20 appearance for Australia had come in February 2009 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
This be his first stint in county cricket and will provide him a chance to enhance his game and prove himself in the longest format of the game. To date, he has played 27 first-class matches, all for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 in the Australian
domestic circuit. In his 27 first class appearances, the all-rounder has scored 1257 runs at an average of 29.92. The handy right-arm medium pacer has taken 47 wickets at an average of 31.38.
At the Sophia Gardens, Moises will be welcomed by his former New South Wales Coach, Mathew Mott, who is currently leading http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mott-c77775 said he was delighted that Henriques will be joining them at Cardiff.
"I am delighted that Moises will be joining us for the first part of the season," said Mott while speaking to media reporters on Tuesday.
"We play nearly a third of our Championship matches within the first five weeks. Given the probability of bowler friendly conditions, we opted for an all-rounder...we look to start the season in a positive manner," he added further.
Henriques is also excited over getting a chance to work with former coach, Mathew Mott.
"I am thrilled to be joining Glamorgan...I look forward to working with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Mott-c1928 again," said the Australian all-rounder. "...I hope to make a positive contribution for Glamorgan as they look to start the season on the front foot,"
he added further.
The Dragons will start their 2012 season against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 on April 5, 2012.
