Glamorgan signs Alviro Petersen

The 29-year-old will replace current captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jamie-Dalrymple-c1658 in all forms of the cricket. He will arrive at Glamorgan as one of South Africa's most productive players having more than 6,500 first class
runs to his name.
"We are delighted to have secured Alviro's services for next season.
We are an ambitious club and share our supporters and members desire to bring success back to the club," chief executive Alan Hamer said.
Petersen will become Glamorgan's main overseas player for the 2011 season as he replaces Australian Mark Cosgrove. However, Cosgrove has been offered a deal with the
county to come back and play through the Twenty20 Cup.
One-day cricket is Glamorgan's strongest area and chance of success. The chief executive sees Petersen's signing as a way to make success a real possibility in limited
overs cricket. The four-day game has produced more uncertainty and has seen the county linger in division two of the county championship for a number of years.
"In particular, Glamorgan's record in one-day cricket over the past few
years has been very poor and the appointment of Alviro as our captain forms a crucial part of the club's strategy to improve our playing fortunes over the coming seasons," added Hamer.
Petersen will benefit hugely from this deal because it will give him a chance to learn captaincy and leadership skills during a tough English season. He's already a big character
and the extra responsibility is something he should take in his stride.
"As well as being a high-quality international player, he is also an outstanding leader and we look forward to working with him as we strive for improvements in our performances,"
said Hamer.
Betting advice
Petersen's best playing role is being an aggressive batsman. He has just broken into the South African international set-up because of the way he can dominate an opposition
attack. Have a bet on him being top runs scorer in division two of the county championship next season.
