Glamorgan v Essex: Clydesdale Bank 40 - Second Innings Recap
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
The visitors had to bat for a couple of more overs, as they scored their runs in 38 overs. However, rain interrupted play at that stage of the innings and the team was unable to bat the entire overs.
Although Glamorgan would have liked to bat the entire overs, they would have still been pleased with the situation, as there was no top-order batsman in the middle to make most of the remaining 12 balls in the innings.
When rain came down, Glamorgan’s tail-enders http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Rees-c1461, who top scored the match with 101 runs. He was dismissed on the second delivery
of the 38th over.
Both teams had to wait for quite a long time for the rain to stop. It was heavier in the beginning, but started to drizzle after some time. Once the drizzling finally stopped, the ground-staff tried to improve the conditions as quickly as possible.
The umpires finally came out for the inspection and decided to resume play. This was very good news for all the anxious fans, who had come to the stadium for the support of their local team.
Essex’s target was revised to 133 off 15 overs. There was plenty of time lost due to the rain and this was the maximum amount of possible overs in the day according to the umpires.
The outfield was a little wet, but luckily the playing area had dried out pretty nicely. The bowlers were a little concerned about their run-up, but the conditions were good for cricket.
The rain had left some moisture beneath the surface of the pitch and there was still a heavy cloud cover over the field, which suggested that the ball might swing in the air for a few overs.
Essex opened the innings with Mark Pettini and wicketkeeper batsman Adam Wheater. The latter was unable to make an impression in his short stay at the crease. He managed just one run off four balls before being dismissed in the first over of the innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Napier-c1505 was promoted in the order to number three, but the ploy failed badly, as he got out after scoring just eight runs.
However, the innings was put on track by Pettini and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134. The pair were unbeaten on 19 and 25 respectively, guiding the hosts’ total to 53 in 6.2 overs, but the match was once again stopped due to rain.
The match ended in no result, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-Jones-c2531 did a decent job for Glamorgan, picking up both the wickets to fall in Essex’s innings.
