Glasgow Pushing for Title Next Year
Sean Lineen, coach of the Glasgow team, has promised that his side are going to make a real push for the Magners League title next season.
Glasgow have been one of the most active clubs during the close season and they have already made a number of positive and talented additions to their playing staff. The coach has also said that the club are trying to improve facilities and other areas within what their budget allows.
Glasgow fans were calling for a few new players at the end of last season because of the inability of the current squad to produce the consistency needed to make a real impact in domestic and European rugby.
The coach promised at the time that improvements would be made and he seems to be coming good on this promise. The two things that will help Glasgow push for the title next season are improved consistency and a more balanced side.
Improved Consistency
Glasgow are not a bad club and team by any means and the only thing that seemed to hold them back last year was their failure to produce top level consistency on a regular basis.
Quite often the team would play well for a small part of the game and then be very ordinary for the rest of the match. This is not what is needed to beat the best teams and go for the title and they’ll have to start playing well for an entire match if they want to come good on this close season promise and expectation.
Consistency does not always mean the best quality of performance, it means results. No one at Glasgow is going to argue if the club puts three or four wins together playing quite poorly. This is because at some point the quality of performance is going to improve and the club will then be in a position to throw their league position and weight around.
Balance
Glasgow seem to have a more balanced squad at the moment. There is cover in the middle of the pitch, which is one of the most important areas of the team. It means that if someone gets injured they will have an equally big and impressive centre player to bring in and solidify the middle of the team.
Glasgow have always had pace in the wider areas of the team but they have sometimes lacked the invention to get the ball out to these wide areas on a consistent basis. If they can do this next season then the quick players in the team can exploit gaps in the oppositions and fly over the line to score.
They have injected some experience into the side, which will help the balance between the old and the young. The older players will be able to help the younger players through a variety of different situations and any club in rugby will tell you that there is no substitution for high-class experience.
Advice
Go for Glasgow to win the Magners title next season if you like what you hear but keep in mind that there are some very good teams in that league. No one would blame you for sacrificing some quality of odds to see how Glasgow start the season.
If you want to back players in the team then stick with the new players at the club who will be intent on making a big impression. The likes of Federico Aramburu will be flying out of the traps and trying to make a real impression on the team and during games.
