Glasgow Rangers involved in takeover talks with Craig Whyte
Scottish entrepreneur Craig Whyte is in talks with Murray International Holdings Limited (MIH), the majority shareholder of Rangers Football Club, in a possible takeover bid.
"Mr. Whyte confirms he is considering making an offer for RFC and is in talks with Murray International Holdings Limited (MIH), but these are at an early stage and there can be no certainty that an offer will ultimately be made," read a recent media statement.
Whyte, who has been based in London, is 39 years old and originally from Motherwell. He is said to have always been an avid Rangers supporter.
Sir David Murray had announced that he was taking Rangers off the market during the summer after being unable to find a potential buyer for his majority stake in the club, but had remained open to the idea of a sale should a legitimate potential buyer come
forward.
On the Rangers side of things,. the news is being regarded as very positive as Trust Board member Kenny Park recently told the
Press Association, "This appears to be a very positive development for the club and Rangers fans will welcome any initiative that stabilises the club's finances and enables it
to move forward.
"We look forward to hearing further details of Mr Whyte's plans and working with him and his board as they build for the future and strive to continue Rangers' proud tradition of success."
Rangers' debt reached as high as £27.1 million in June, a sum that Whyte could theoretically wipe away. Murray, according to
The Herald, stands to receieve some £6 million for his shares, with the total estimated sale price going for around £30 million.
Murray has been involved with the Glasgow club for more than twenty years and got to see the team win their 53rd Scottish title back in April. Rangers are currently top of the table.
