Glasgow Warriors releases Chauncey O’Toole
The Glasgow Warriors have put an end to Chauncey O’Toole’s period with the team after the player wasn’t able to earn a permanent spot.
The 24-year-old Canadian flanker had been brought on in September to try to bolster their line-up in the face of injuries but with key players in Glasgow coming back to the line-up he found himself without
a place, and is said to be returning to Canada to earn play on a professional club there and earn his way onto the Canadian national team.
“Chauncey joined us on a trial basis during pre-season and returned to Canada before agreeing to come back on a very short-term deal to provide cover at a time when we had an unprecedented number of injuries,”
said Glasgow head coach Sean Lineen.
Despite the setback for O’Toole, Lineen had nothing but good things to say about the Canadian.
"He made a positive contribution to the Warriors and continued to develop as a player during his time here and we wish him the very best of luck as he seeks to further his international career back in Canada."
Regardless of the kind words, Glasgow will be looking forward to a change. The team sits 10th out of 12 teams in the Magners League table, with one win and four losses in five games. They’ve had better success
in the Europe-wide Heineken Cup thus far, with one win in one game, a 21-13 win over the Dragons.
The team has been racked due to injuries, including the retirement of Thom Evans due to a severe neck injury. The club also lost Hefin O’Hare to Commonwealth Games rugby sevens action, which concluded on
Tuesday. Al Kellock, Chris Cusiter, Johnnie Beattie, Dougie Hall, James Eddie, Colin Gregor and John Barclay also have all suffered injuries for Glasgow recently.
