Question:

Glasgow or Edinburgh?

Hello! I'm planning to move to one of these cities to improve my English. I need it since I study Tourism in Spain, so it's necessary for me to speak it well. But it's is also the first time I leave home so I want to live new experiences, so I'm looking for a estimulating city, especially if has a good nightlife. I don't know much about Glasgow or Edinburgh, I'd like to live in a beautiful city but NOT in a boring one. So, what city is best in your opinion (and according my criteria)?

Thanks in advance

  1. Neither one if your goal is to come back being able to speak intelligible English!  They both have pretty heavy accents.  If you want to work on your English, you should go someplace further south.

Now, if you want to live in a charming city, go for Edinburgh.  I understand Glasgow is all industrial, whereas Edinburgh is gorgeous!  Very historic and romantic.

don't know anything about night life, but I'm sure you'll find it in both.

I LOVED Edinburgh.  It is overshadowed by this HUGE medieval castle that is all romantic and brooding and full of ghost stories and such.  Really nice city.  Take my word for it.

(Plus there's that whole haunted underground area, too.)

  2. Neither.  You wont learn English, you will learn Scottish.  Its English but sounds very very different.  The best example i can think of is how Castellano differs to Argentinian or Uruguayan. Que talco / que tal.  Glasgow or Glaswegian as its known is very difficult to understand.  Edinburgh is a little easier on the ear.  I would recommend Chester, it's a great city loads of Roman history, close enough to Liverpool and Manchester (both excellent for nightlife), not far from North Wales where you have beautifull countryside and coast (not like the Spanish playa however!)  Good luck but dont go to Scotland to learn English!!

  3. Glasgow......more friendly and amazing nightlife.

Love Edinburgh but it's too tourist directed.

Glasgow is an amazing city and has culture, nightlife and a history worth exploring.

    Glasgow, all the way.

  4. Glasgow is my favourite of the two, it is a great night out and a h**l of a lot cheaper than Edinburgh. But both have good and bad sides, they aren't very far apart though so you can easily travel between them, its like 40 mins on the train!

  5. Edinburgh is better for the sites, history and landmarks

    Glasgow is more modern

I love both (Im from fife)
