Glasgow thumps Bath Rugby by 26-21 in Heineken Cup Pool 3 clash - Rugby News
Glasgow started off their Heineken Cup 2011 campaign in an impressive way as they battled past Bath Rugby by a healthy difference of 26-21 on November 13 at Glasgow. Duncan Weir played a key role in Glasgow’s victory as he scored 16 individual points for
his team in the opening game of the event. Stuart Hogg and Richie Gray also elevated the winning side with one try. The fly-half from Bath, Tom Heathcote, was at his best in the field but the lack of team support ruined his superb efforts after he kicked seven
penalty goals for his team.
It was an interesting competition as the sides looked well prepared for the clash. The much anticipated encounter managed to amuse the crowd from the very first minute as Tom Heatcote landed the pill into Glasgow’s goals at a penalty shot. Bath was dominating
their rivals as they were passing the ball swiftly on the field. However, they could not stop the hosts from equalising the match just a couple of minutes later.
Glasgow led the equation by a narrow margin of 9-6 at the end of the first half as Weir scored all the points for his team. Bath Rugby bounced back in the match after the break and scored quick pair of penalty goals to take back the lead. The last 20 minutes
of the match proved decisive as Glasgow scored heaps of points during this span.
Stuart Hogg stole the first try of the match for Glasgow in the 59th minute which was complimented by Duncan Weir on the conversion goal. Weir further expanded his team’s total of 19-18 with just seven minutes remaining in the match. Richie Gray
put the last nail in Bath’s coffin with a last minute try when his team was trailing by 21-19. Glasgow finished off their first outing in the event with fine effort of 26-21.
