When I leave my recycling out for pickup they left all the wine bottles in the bin why would they do this?

Also at our community recycling center they do not take colored glass is this common? What should I do with my colored glass?

  1. no

  2. I would guess that no glass recycling plants near you use colored glass. Most recycled glass is made into fiberglass insulation. If they don't accept colored glass all you can do is put it with the trash. The worst thing glass will do is take up space in the landfill. It won't leach poisonous chemicals into the soil or groundwater.

  3. that's odd in Ontario you pay a deposit on the wine bottles and get the deposit back if you take them to the beer store,if you pay no deposit and they don't take them curb side check your local paper or weekly bargain magazine there may be someone looking for wine bottles because they make there own wine and need bottles. If your blue box guy is leaving the bottles its because he's leaving them for you to take back for the deposit, call your local town office and ask what the policy is  and what the pick up company is suppose to pick up

  4. I put the same question to the guy from liquor store...when he wanted to charge me for deposit...He made a call and told me where I can go to take my money back. It wasn't about money...I just wanted to do a good thing for our planet...even if it's something small...Maybe we must put this question to a senator....If somebody wanna try...and need more signatures...let me know cause i sign that.

  5. use them for somthing else /... give it to someone ... throw them out .. w/e yu want to do / i think that the best thing to do is to use them forsomething else.. anything be creative

  6. Research where you can recycle colored glass locally. You could also change to a clear wine bottle. I know most are colored but maybe a good wine exists in a clear bottle.

And even if a wine bottle doesn't leach or cause pollution (?) (it is trash if disposed into a landfill; i.e. pollution) the bottom line is this; landfills don't close because they get too heavy, they close because they get too full.

  7. A lot of recycling centers do this. glass has to be sorted by colors because its remelted and made into new the wrong colors mixed will change the finish color. check to see if there's another nearby that does sort glass, otherwise you tried but to the trash it goes.

  8. someone here mentioned asking if anyone would re use them for when someone else bottled wine. I would use craigslist.com

someone is bound to use them for that purpose or some other purpose

just make sure you rinse them out right after use.

it would be great if we could figure out how to recycle everything.
