Question:

Glasses and motorbikes?

I'm planning to learn how to ride a motorbike; I've been reading about the CBT and I noticed the first portion contains eyesight.

I do have to wear glasses; they're not optional, because without them my vision blurs within a few meters - I wouldn't be able to do things like read direction signs, see a warning until I was pretty much on top of it, etc.

How much will wearing glasses impair my ability to ride a motorbike? Will I even get through the CBT with them?

  1. you must wear them at all time......even if you have 2 set of glasses, cut the hooksof the spare pair, putyour helmet on and slip the glasses on...

  2. They're fine, my father rides his Harley Davidson with sunglasses so I would imagine reading/seeing glasses would be about the same.

  3. You should have no problems wearing your glasses.

  4. I used to ride with glasses (i wear contacts now)

you should have no trouble riding with them as long as they are the right prescription...

  5. Wear your glasses silly - that's what they're for - to help you see better!  I certainly can't do ANYTHING without my glasses!  But I drive a car and a bike - wearing them.

The CBT does not expect you to be able to do anything without your glasses!

  6. I drive a bike and a car and to be honest, even though I couldn't afford them, I got contacts for the bike. I found that the slightest movement from the helmet caused my glasses to shift. Contacts are pretty reasonably priced these days so I'd suggest you go for them.

  7. I have worn glasses since I was 18.

I have been riding motorcycles and wearing gasses for 25 years with no problems (with both full-face and open-face helmets).

  8. If your eyes need glasses that bad the YES you will have to wear them to be safe and stop you hitting other road users.  Choose you helmet that can comfortably accomodate them and you will be fine

I have been biking for 40 years now and I have worn specs for 50 and I don't like contacts(can't put the d**n things in) so glasses it is. I'm as blind as a bat without them.  Make sure the helmet you choose is comfortable as pressure on the top of the ears with glasses will make them ache like h**l

Spec savers do glasses with flat arms on them and they are just great for bikers

Good luck with the biking and keep safe WITH glasses

  9. you may want to invest in a pair of sport type glass for better eye protection but ant glass will do.http://oakley.com/radar these can be fitted with rx I would get a clear or yellow tint pair and a dark pair.

if you don't want to spend a lot wal mart has some to.

  10. sure, you can get prescription goggles, you can have shatterproof regular glasses lenses, or you can wear a visor over your glasses... just keep them on for the cbt and when you ride

i wear glasses, but just for the computer, so i got my license without wearing them so i could choose for myself if i want to wear them on the bike or not and not be forced to.  i can see fine with just goggles

  11. Wearing glasses will not impair your ability to ride a motorbike?  I wear glasses and ride a motorcycle.  It also adds one extra layer of safety/eye protection.

  12. You'll be fine my bf rides with glasses and contacts. Don't worry about it just make sure they fit and are secure on your face and that you have a visor on your helmet.
