Glaucoma Question?

Hi All,

My brother said he has a very slight pain behind his eyes and headaches. His doctor said his eyes look fine and its not worth seeing an optician but he is still nervous.

He said the pain only happens at certain times of the day, not all the time. If it was open angle glaucoma wouldn't the pain be persistant?

The doctor has told him anxiety can casuse all sorts of pains in the body if you worry about them and has told him to try and relax. Doctor said it looks like he getting normal headaches.

He seen an optemetrist last month and he said there are no problems. He has had this problam last month but symptoms went away after a week.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

  1. maybe he needs to go to the Opticians and get re-assured... I went in time and its worth it.

Elvis had Glaucoma... just as a by the way??

    what is a '''''normal headache'''''??

  2. If it was open angle glaucoma pain would not be a symptom.

One of the major problems with open-angle (chronic simple) glaucoma is the absence of any significant warning symptoms that stand out (as opposed to signs that can be noticed if tested for.)

And odd intermittent pains round the eyes have so many potential causes they are no real guide to differential diagnosis...  The sinuses, not the eyes, would be the primary suspect, just on statistical grounds.

  3. This isn't glaucoma.  Probably sinus related.  No need to see an ophthalmologist.  They won't do anything the optometrist can't do for this type of thing.

  4. I suffer from open angle glaucoma . And your brothers symptoms aren't the same as mine . His optician would have tested the pressure in his eyes . And looked at his optic nerve . I wouldn't worry too much . But if his problems persist go to another optician for a second opinion .

Glaucoma cannot be cured but it can be controlled by eye drops . And in the slightly worse cases when the drops aren't sufficient surgery . With Glaucoma it is more about prevention rather than cure .

  5. Glaucoma can be controlled by using medications.  It sounds like your brother should see an ophthalmologist to have his iop (intraocular pressure) checked and maybe a visual field test done to be safe.  He may just have headaches or dry eyes.  if it clears up with the drop it sounds like dry eye.  Not all the time with Glaucoma you have eye pain but he should have it checked soon to be on the safe side.
