Gleison Tiabu vs Rafael Dos Anjos – MMA Preview: UFC 139
On November 19, 2011, two Brazilian fighters will put their nationality and aside to punch their way ahead in the fight. Gleison Tiabu and Rafael Dos Anjos will face each other at UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) 139. Their
bout, the fourth fight of the match, would be an interesting one as both fighters have their own strengths and weaknesses.
Tiabu won his last fight against American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, compatriot Rafaello Oliveira at UFC 130 in March 2011. He won the match with his submission move, the rear naked choke. Dos Anjos won his last fight at
UFC 132 in July 2011 when he won the match by a knockout punch against Australian George Sotiropoulos. Dos Anjos gave a devastating punch and won the match in just fifty-nine seconds in the first round.
Dos Anjos has won 15 fights and lost 5 with none of his fights ending in a draw. Tiabu, on the other hand, has won 33 fights with 7 loses and no draws. Tiabu will have the upper hand in the fight as he has much experience to battle
in the ring. Tiabu will also have a slight advantage with his height. He stands in at 5ft 10in, one inch taller than Dos Anjos. Tiabu also has a reach of 72in as compared to Don Anjos’ 71in reach. Tiabu will get as much advantage and leverage as he can from
his height and reach factor.
Tiabu will use his takedown ability against Don Anjos. Tiabu, who has a 62% success rate with his takedowns and will use it to put down his opponent in the early parts of the first round. Don Anjos is overshadows Tiabu in his submission
moves. He has a 40% submission success rate while Tiabu has a 25% success rate with his submissions.
In terms of striking capabilities, both fighters have a lower success ratio. Tiabu has a 13% striking success rate while Dos Anjos has a 23% rate. Dos Anjos will try to overcome Tiabu and put him on his back in the ring. He would
look to apply his armbar submission move to get an early advantage. Tiabu, on the other hand, will focus on using his rear naked choke and the arm triangle choke.
Both fighters, who specialize in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, could be equally devastating in the fight.
