Glen Chapple retains Lancashire County Cricket Club captaincy for third successive season
Lancashire all-rounder Glen Chapple retains his captaincy role of Lancashire for the upcoming county season. The 2010-11 season would be Chapple’s third consecutive season as the Lancashire skipper.
He was reappointed for the third season recently at Old Trafford.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my two years as club captain and I am delighted to continue the responsibility into 2011," said Chapple. "We have a great set of lads at the club and we will continue to work
hard to achieve our goals," he added.
The 36-year-old Chapple - who made his Lancashire debut in 1992 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 Hawks at the Aigburth County Cricket Ground, Liverpool - replaced Stuart Law as the team’s captain in 2009. During the
2010 season, the right-arm medium pacer picked up 52 Championship wickets at a bowling average of 19.10. 2010; it turned out to be a good season for the 6-feet 2-inches tall http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 born as he compiled a tally of 403 runs.
The remarkable all-round performance during the 2010 campaign earned him Lancashire’s Player of the Year title. He was named the club’s Player of the Year for the first time in the 2002 season.
Before the start of the recently concluded county season, Chapple expressed his intent to play each and every game for the club but looking at his injury-ruined past three years, Peter Moores, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806
coach, decided not to play the 36-year-old in most of Lancashire’s limited-over matches to maintain his fitness for the Championship campaign. Though the all-rounder got injured in July this year and missed few T20 fixtures, he did not miss a single match
of the County Championship.
The Lancashire CCC is struggling to break the 5-season trophy drought. Their last triumphant performance came back in 2005 when the club won the Division Two Championship crown.
The head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Moores-c81848, said: "Over the past two seasons, Glen has grown into the role of captain and has shown that the demands of the job have enhanced his performances with both bat and ball.”
"He is highly respected by both players and coaches alike and his contributions, on and off the field, have been outstanding. His commitment and passion for the club and the game remain total and his
performances on the pitch continue to inspire those around him," added the coach.
