Glen Davis says he was not mentally prepared for the playoffs – NBA Update
During a community appearance on Monday, the Boston Celtics reserve power forward Glen Davis, who is nicknamed as Big Baby, stated that he was not mentally prepared for the play-offs which was the major reason for his struggles.
With many NBA analysts casting doubt on his physical fitness after the poor performances against Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, Davis has come out in the open and has revealed his side of the story. Citing his
mental, rather than the physical competency, as the main reason for the slump, he said;
“Every postseason I've played tremendously good, to the point where it was like, 'Wow.' But this summer it didn't happen because I felt, mentally, I wasn't ready and prepared enough for what was in front of me. I didn't prepare
for it well mentally, and it affected the way I played. That's what I've been doing this offseason, concentrating on making sure that postseason won't happen again.” Davis said.
The 25-year-old Davis who had the best 2010-2011 regular season of his career with an average of 11.7 points and 5.4 rebounds failed to mark an impression in the post-season and the Celtics were thrown out from the championship
run. In over 21 minutes of playing time per game, Big Baby scored at a poor average of 4.9 points in the play-offs.
Glen made no clarification for not being mentally prepared, however his spun-out status of a free agent could be an important factor going in his mind. With a potential NBA lockout drawing close, the future of Davis becomes uncertain
as he will be tagged as an unrestricted free agent on 1st of July.
However the most important thing for Glen at the moment is to be himself when he sets foot on the court next time, I feel I know what's most important to me and that's Glen being Glen. I can't perform the way I need to perform
if I'm not Glen Davis. I need to be in a situation where I'm going to be Glen Davis.”
Before the 2010-2011 season, Davis cropped up with an objection that he does not have a defined role in the team as the Celtics’ coach Doc Rivers sent a friendly warning shot by asking him to focus on his responsibilities assigned
and keep his mouth shut.
Glen did a magnificent job later on that not only earned him more playing time, the Big Baby was also consider for the sixth man of the year award. However, his play-off performance produced a concern for the Boston Celtics.
