Glen Johnson inspired by Bernard Hopkins before going against Carl Froch – Boxing news
The Road Warrior Glen Johnson is inspired by the 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins’ recent victory before going in the ring against Carl Froch this Saturday.
The Executioner, Hopkins, defeated the Canadian Jean Pascal and became the oldest man ever to win a World Boxing Council light heavyweight title and this is a big inspiration for Johnson.
Johnson, who is a 42-year-old Jamaican boxer, will challenge the World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch in the Super Six semi-finals in the Atlantic City this Saturday.
Johnson, who has won 51 of his 67 fights with 35 knockouts, remarked Hopkins is an inspiration for the old fighters like him.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Barnard fought a wonderful fight and congratulations to him for the win. I knew he was definitely going to win the fight but I didn’t know if he was going to get a decision. Kudos to him. He’s definitely is an inspiration
to us old guys.”
Johnson has never faced a boxer with the style of Froch and thus he has been watching tapes to notice the way of the Nottingham’s native. However, Johnson says he is going to be prepared for whatever style his opponent is going to bring in the ring.
“He’s a tall guy that really kind of fights short sometimes. But in his last fight he actually fought tall and used his reach and boxed the way he’s supposed to box and the way he’s built to box. I’ve boxed tall guys before but never guys who have scrunched
down and tried to be a short guy. But we are prepared for either style that he shows and we’re looking forwards to an exciting fight,” Johnson said.
Both have exchanged many words and all that is left to see is whether Johnson manages to see off Froch who considers himself a heavy favourite for the match.
The winner of these two will advance into the final and will face Andre Ward in December 2011 at Madison Square Garden.
