Glen McCrory believes Brook is dangerous for Ricky Hatton’s legacy – Boxing News
While most fellow Briton fighters are excited about former WBA champion Ricky Hatton’s ring return, Glenn McCrory believes it will be a blunder on Hatton’s end. According to Glenn, Ricky has lost a lot of weight recently and he is not the same man as he
used to be.
McCrory, former world cruiserweight champion, believes Ricky Hatton is putting his legacy in danger by thinking of making a comeback. It has been a year since Hatton retired and now there are reports of the Briton returning to the ring. However, Hatton’s
agent has revealed that there are definite plans yet.
“If Hatton did return he could tarnish the legacy that he worked ever so hard to create, and be remembered more for a couple of poor showings in his mid-thirties than some of the great nights he produced, most notably against Kostya Tszyu,” said McCrory
in his Sky Sport column.
McCrory believes Hatton should not think about coming back, especially not against Kell Brook. Earlier it was reported that Hatton would take on Paulie Malignaggi. However, reports came in suggesting that Malignaggi is looking forward to a fight against
Pablo Cesar Cano on October 20.
Hatton has already defeated Malignaggi once so the latter was an easy target for Hatton’s comeback. Now, it seems like Hatton is running out of option. This is a situation where the Briton can opt for even the most dangerous opponent, a situation against
which McCrory is warning Hatton.
“Reports are suggesting that he could battle Paul Malignaggi - a man that 'The Hitman' defeated in November 2008 - but I wouldn't want Ricky to face anybody. And where else, apart from Malignaggi, could he go anyway? Would you put him with Kell Brook? No,
because Kell would destroy him.”
McCrory further showed concerns regarding Hatton’s health. He emphasized on the fact that Hatton has not been living the life of an active boxer and has not maintained his shape. Therefore, his comeback strategy might not be the best for him.
Hatton last fought Filipino Manny Pacquiao in 2009, losing via second round brutal knockout.
