Glenn Donaire preparing to defend WBC Latino flyweight title against Omar Soto – Boxing news
Glenn Donaire, the current interim WBC Latino flyweight title holder is scheduled to defend his newly acquired gold against the Mexican proud pugilist Omar Soto in a 12-round brawl which will be held in Mexico and will be Glenn’s second skirmish after his
2011 return.
The ring will be set up at Auditorio Plaza Condesa situated in Mexico City, Distrito Federal. Glenn will enter the ring for the second time after he re-entered the flyweight division by taking on Alex Sanchez. Glenn, the elder brother of the prolific Nonito
Donaire Junior, had faced extreme hard times especially after the death of her mother.
The distressing financial scenario led Glenn to forfeit his beloved family sport in 2008 and do a full time job to meet the ends. Glenn returned to the boxing scenario impressively against Alex and not only nailed him but also collected the apex regional
flyweight gold.
Glenn while praising the efforts and the trust placed by his family especially his father said, “I’m focused and ready, me and my father are doing our part and my promoter Tuto Zabala is doing his, so therefore I should get a title shot this year.”
The Puerto Rican, at the moment, is training under the supervision of his father the legendary Nonito Donaire Senior. Glenn has been in a total 23 brawls and has lost just four. He has collected 10 of his wins by knockout and had been the proud owner of
various titles such as IBF and IBO flyweight gold, the NABA and WBO NABO flyweight title and others.
Infamous as the Boyet, Glenn is coming pretty strong and has worked hard to draft his own legacy. While brawling against Alex, Glenn collected a retired hurt decision in his favour by injuring Alex in just the eighth round. Omar, Glenn’s March 16, 2012,
opponent is more experienced as compared to Glenn.
Soto, infamous as the ‘Lobito’, has been in a total 32 bouts and came out victorious in 22. He has collected 15 of his wins by kayo and boasts wins over Eduardo Gonzalez, Valentin Leon, and Edgar Jimenez. Unfortunately, the Mexican pugilist is coming from
a loss against Roman Gonzalez.
Omar and Glenn are almost equal competitors when it comes to pugilism, ideal footwork, and impressive agility. Both men will enter the ring and try to nail each other. Glenn needs to come up victorious to start his legacy. The 12-round interim WBC Latino
Flyweight title bout will be televised on Telemundo Network.
