Glenn Hall downs Jeremy Flores to enter ASP PRIME Nike Lowers Pro Semi-finals
Ireland’s Glenn Hall made his way into the Semi-finals at the Nike Lowers Pro, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) PRIME event, after getting the better of France’s Jeremy Flores in the first Quarter-final that went down at the fabled beach-break
of Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California, on Saturday, May 5.
Both the surfers had been exhibiting a promising form throughout the course of the event, putting their stylish skills on display while gradually making it through the early rounds. The road was not an easy one considering the amount of talent that constituted
the competition field. The appeal of the prestigious event title, slice of the big prize purse and ASP ranking points had even attracted a number of ASP World Tour contenders to Lower Trestles.
Hall and Flores had done really well to stay alive in the contention for the event title despite not being as familiar with the surfing conditions prevailing at the event site as some of their competitors.
Determined to go all the way to the end of the event, the Irish and French surfer planned on holding nothing back during their clash for the Semi-final spot.
As the action resumed on Saturday with the first Quarter-final, there was hardly anyone who expected to watch a one-sided battle. Much to the dismay of Flores’ fans, that is exactly what happened.
As the battle got underway, Hall immediately set his sights on an approaching juicy wave, which he successfully locked to unload a series of impressive manoeuvres. Getting a 6.67 for the effort, he immediately moved into the lead.
The 30-year-old Irish surfer continued his search for another good score and eventually got hold of a 6.63-point ride, which took his combined heat-total to 13.30 points.
The score was not something that Flores hadn’t gotten past during the previous rounds of the competition. However, his rhythm did not turn out to be as good as the one that he had been displaying over the last few days. He collected a couple of scores in
the six-point range, before eventually getting called for interference. Finishing with an eventual resultant heat-total of 6.67 points, the Frenchman got removed from the contention for the ASP PRIME event title.
