Glenn Hall downs Nathaniel Curran to claim Mr Price Pro Ballito Title
Ireland’s Glenn Hall walked away with the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime Mr Price Pro Ballito Title after getting the better of America’s Nathaniel Curran in the Final that went down at Willard Beach in KwaDukuza, South Africa, on Sunday,
July 8.
“It’s the biggest win of my career by far, I kinda felt like if you got the wave out there you could get the score and I was just praying for a wave at the end,” Hall said. “Nathaniel is an amazing surfer and I was pumped to have a Final against him. It
was always going to be a tough heat but I’ve learnt never to be content with second and to always push for more until you’ve won.”
With the best swell of the waiting period gracing the primary event site on the final day of the competition, the surfers and crowd could not have hoped for a better stage to see two of the most in-form surfers battle it out for the ultimate honour.
Hall had been exhibiting a formidable form since the start of the competition, holding his own against some of the best surfers from around the world to gradually make his way towards the final.
However, what Curran had accomplished in the semi-final was enough to make him a heavy favourite. The American surfer had managed to get the better of current ASP World No.4 Adriano de Souza from Brazil to earn his place in the final.
AS the 35-minute battle for the event title got underway, Glenn wasted very little time to get down to business. The Irish surfer got hold of a juicy wave to unload a serious of exquisite manoeuvres to post an 8.33 on the score-board. In the final minutes
of the heat, he added an additional 6.67 points to his account, thus finishing with a heat-total of 15.00 points.
Curran conducted a desperate search for a couple of good waves to challenge his rival, but the efforts turned out to be in vain as he finished with a heat-total of 13.67 points. As a result, he was left with no choice but to settle for a runner-up place
while conceding the title to his rival.
