http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) and vows to be the X-factor for his country in the ICC World
T20 2012, which starts tomorrow in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Having performed exceptionally well for his state side at the domestic front, the 23-year-old Victorian was called up to the international arena during the tour of UAE, and made an immediate impression with his ability to strike the
ball hard.
After beating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 in the only One Day International (ODI), the Baggy Greens won the 50-over series against Pakistan by 2-1, but lost the T20 battle.
Maxwell played a crucial role in Australia’s both ODI victories at Sharjah, including a fantastic unbeaten half-century (56* off just 38 balls with the help of four boundaries and three sixes), which saw the Kangaroos home.
Having done so well, the all-rounder is confident about delivering the goods consistently at the international level and vows to come up with match-winning performances in the mega event. Apart from his batting prowess, Maxwell thinks
that he can make an impression with the ball as well as in the field.
"I'm very confident I can perform now at this level. Hopefully I can be that x-factor that Australia needs to win this tournament," Maxwell said. "I feel like I can become that x-factor in all three facets of the game and hopefully
be that flair that Australia really wants to see.”
The off-spinner has picked up 18 wickets in the 11 first-class matches he has played so far, to go with a hundred and six half-centuries.
Till date, Maxwell has been given an opportunity to showcase his skills in the lower-middle order; however, the stylish cricketer is of the opinion that he can be more effective, if given a chance to bat higher up which would allow him to face more deliveries.
"I feel like I can give http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 more runs at the top of the order rather than the bottom. Hopefully a hundred is not too far away and it comes in this tournament," he feels.
