Glenn McGrath – Cricket Profile – 1993 -2007
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Keith-Warne-c89672 in the mid 90’s. Being of good height, and possessing the perfect high arm action, he was able to gain extra bounce
from even the most placid pitches. He always threatened batsmen, and with maturity and exposure, he was able to harness the capability of swinging the bowl.
In his 18-year cricketing career he broke many records. McGrath is the highest wicket taker in test matches for a fast bowler and is currently fourth on the all-time list. He has represented, Delhi Daredevils, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823, and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866. He made his debut for NSW during 1992-93 season and owing to his remarkable performances, he was soon selected to play for the Australian Test side. He had only played eight first class matches, when he made his debut in 1993 against the touring
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 team at Perth in 1993.
He became the fourth bowler in cricketing history to claim 500 wickets when he dismissed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Trescothick-c1898 at the inaugural match of the 2005 Ashes series. He claimed a fifer in the first innings, followed by an equally impressive performance of 4-29 in
the second innings to bowl Australia to victory.
For his efforts he was awarded the Man of the Match award. In April 2006, he took a hiatus from cricket, but regained his place in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 team, after playing at the 2006 International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy.
He marked his return to the Aussie test team with a six-wicket haul in the first Test at Gabba. The right-arm pacer played a prominent role in his side’s effort of regaining the Ashes that they had lost previously. The Australian team, along with McGrath,
played remarkable cricket by claiming victory in a record breaking 15-days of play during the series. The pacer ended the series with 21 wickets, at an average of 23.90.
Bowling in 243 Test innings, McGrath has claimed 563 wickets at a splendid average of 21.64, including his best bowling figures 8/24; whereas he has picked 381 wickets in 248 ODI innings, at an average of 22.00 with his best bowling performance of 7/15.
McGrath retired from Test cricket on December 23, 2006, and announced his retirement from all formats of the game after representing the Aussies’ at the 2007 Cricket World Cup winning campaign, where he topped the bowling charts with 26 dismissals. He was
named the Player of the Tournament.
He has the dubious record of scoring the most runs (603) as a number 11 batsman. When he was not scoring ducks, he was dismissing the batsmen for ducks in Test cricket, as he holds the record for dismissing the most batsmen on zero.
McGrath’s win-loss record at World Cup is impressive, as he had been part of four mega event campaigns and was on the winning side in three of those. He joined the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the opening season in 2008 and was signed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils.
McGrath was also part of the 2009 IPL season.
