Glenn McGrath advise young fast bowlers to have the ‘right attitude’ - Cricket News Update
Former fast bowling great, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Donald-McGrath-c60183, has cautioned young fast bowlers against the ever-increasing demands of a packed cricketing calendar owing to an influx of T20 cricket.
McGrath was speaking to Cricketnext in Chennai where he arrived last week to replace fellow-countrymen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dennis-Keith-Lillee-c53639, as the new coaching director for the MRF Pace Academy.
The 42-year-old advised the budding fast bowlers to stress on the need of keeping a healthy attitude towards the game, which could be a key to success in coping with modern cricket.
McGrath, cricket’s most successful pace man with 563 wickets in 124 Tests, acknowledged that it is becoming difficult to find a tear-away bowler, but reckoned that playing with the right attitude would always lead to success.
“Sport changes and you have to learn to adapt. To excel you need determination. You need to have attitude. That’s a word I believe strongly in – attitude,” the legendary bowler said.
The former spearhead, who played only two T20Is in his career and had been a strong advocate for the T20 format of the game, is now concerned with its increasing workload for fast bowlers but remains optimistic over the prospects of fast bowling in the Test
format.
“To bowl 150kmph every ball in Twenty20 is impossible,” he said. “Twenty20 cricket will sap you. Twenty20 cricket has a dangerous potential there, but hopefully at the Test level you will see strike bowlers and fast bowlers running in.”
Sharing his predecessor’s (Lillee) views, McGrath said that all the great Test sides in the past had a potent pace attack and teams in the modern era also can’t overlook the significance of having a lethal pace battery.
Impressed with the talent in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Varun-Aaron-c2744 should be carefully looked after and should not be burdened with a heavy workload.
“The key is keeping them fit and monitoring the work load. That’s what I hope to be able to do with MRF. It’s a challenge but I am really looking forward to it. There’s a lot of talent in India,” the bowler concluded.
