Glenn McGrath eyes bigger charity coup in England
Australian legendary bowler Glenn McGrath has set his eyes on a larger charity coup in England after getting an encouraging response in Australia.
McGrath wants to take his “Pink Test” campaign in the next Ashes series at the Lord’s in order to raise money for breast cancer patients in England.
After having his name carved in the Lord’s honours board thrice, McGrath still wants to be highlighted at Lord’s for pulling off the biggest charity event the game has ever seen.
McGrath’s charity organisation has already garnered enough appreciation in the ongoing Sydney Test between Australia and England. The Sydney Test currently is being designated as the Pink Test in order to raise funds and awareness against the most common form of cancer amongst women.
McGrath’s first wife, Jane McGrath lost a long-fought battle with breast cancer in 2008. Both of them started a charity campaign called “McGrath Foundation” in order to create awareness about the disease before she passed away at a relatively young age of 42.
His foundation has supported the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity in Australia. It has helped in raising enough money to pay for over sixty specialist nurses in the country.
Australia’s illustrious bowler is now seeking to serve the cancer patients in the United Kingdom. He raved about the support he got from England’s captain Andrew Strauss and his team. The England team donned baggy ‘pink’ caps before the Sydney Test as they lent their overwhelming support to the cause.
“The support we’re getting from the England side is great because it shows what we are doing is having an effect across the world. If we can do the same in England that would be great,” McGrath conceded.
The 40-year-old former fast bowler got married again in November 2010 to Sara Leonardi, who is now administrating the foundation alongside her husband. McGrath said that he has great friends in England and hopes for carrying his charity’s message to the other side of the world.
“The help that I am getting from England is perhaps also the sign of respect. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the battles that I’ve had with the English over the years and I’ve got a lot of mates there,” McGrath stated.
McGrath and his foundation have been organising the Pink Test over the past two years in Australia. The home side won both the Pink Tests against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 could only hope to win the last Ashes Test in order to level the series.
