Glenn Morrison inks one-year contract with Wildcats in dual role - Rugby League
On Saturday, October 22, the veteran Australian forward, Glenn Morrison, has agreed to a coaching role at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats after sealing a one-year deal which will also see him play on field.
He has had the honour of leading Wildcats in 2011, where under his flagship, his side survived wooden spoon status at the wrap-up of the regular Super League season.
According to the offer he is entitled to fill in both as coach and player for Wakefield, under the head coach Richard Agar. This seems to be a perfect way for the player to make a transition from his on field role to management responsibility.
This was Morrison's last year in a playing capacity and could not end more perfectly than being offered a dual role to practice his future off field role.
There are a number of changes attached to a new coaching role. He will not only serve in the capacity of assistant coach to Agar but will also oversee the club’s Under 20s team.
Morris seemed happy with the latest development within the squad and is looking forward to work alongside their new coach. He said, "It's been a long process obviously with a new coach coming in and the coaching side being part of the contract, so we had
to make sure it was all good for both parties and I'm excited about the prospects. I'll be an assistant coach during the day and then head coach of the 20s so I get to have my own side and show what I can do there. That's what I want to move into eventually
so it's a good chance for me."
The prop labelled the opportunity as a huge one for himself and he is all set to make the most out of it. He said that the two different coaching capacities at the same time will not only grant him with the opportunity to learn from Agar’s distinguished
coaching but with the complete authority over Under-20s will give open hand to test his personal style.
The dual coaching package will help him grow into his new coaching role.
