Glenn Morrison of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats forced to retire after shoulder injury
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats has confirmed on Friday, November 11, that their forward, Glenn Morrison, has been compelled to announce his retirement after he sustained a severe shoulder injury during the first week of pre-season training.
Morrison's injury will require him to undergo an elaborate surgical procedure by taking bone from his hip. He recently agreed to a deal with Wildcats for 2012, which had initiated his coaching career. With his sudden exit because of his injury, the player
will now only focus on his assistant coach position.
The 35-year-old was not mentally prepared to hang up his boots at this level and was disheartened to depart at the beginning of the next year’s training session.
Expressing his views about his untimely injury, Morrison stated, "I'm still pretty shattered by what's happened and it hasn't really sunk in that I won't be playing any more. When I signed the new deal recently I still felt I had a good year or two in me.
But I've had a great time over 16 seasons and I've loved every minute of it. I want to thank all the coaches, players and fans that have helped me so much throughout my career and a special thank you to my family who have provided fantastic support to me through
it all."
Speaking about Wildcats’ veteran Morrison, who was factoring in another year or two at the club, the Wakefield Chief Executive, James Elston, acknowledged his professionalism and good on-field presence. Elston said that it was sad to learn that the veteran
player had to finish his career in such a way, especially sonce he still had at least a year more on the cards.
Elston further added that Morrison can serve as a fitting role model for the younger lot of players. His ability to give his maximum to the game during training sessions has also been acknowledged by the CEO.
Morrison's passion for coaching is well known. It is believed that he will be equally brilliant as the assistant and under-20s coach after the player bids farewell to his on-field role.
