Glenn Snyders, Giedrius Titenis and Ryosuke Irie dominate Men’s events – World University Games
Glenn Snyders of New Zealand, Giedrius Titenis of Lithuania and Ryosuke Irie of Japan dominated the Men’s 200m breast-stroke and the 200m back-stroke respectively, on the initial day of the 2011 World University Games, which took place in Shenzhen, China,
on August 14.
Snyder and Titenis won the gold medal of the breast-stroke event in a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 10.85 seconds and remained nearly three seconds away from the world record of 2 minutes and 07.31 seconds, made by Christian Sprenger of Australia in 2009.
The duo stunned the aquatic centre with their tremendous swim for the gold medal. They were in a lead of 0.11 seconds over their following swimmer, Kazuki Otsuka of Japan, who settled as the third position holder of the event by submitting a time of 2 minutes
and 10.96 seconds.
Next was Valerii Dymo of Ukraine, who appeared as the fourth fastest finisher of the event, by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 12.83 seconds. Moments later, Anton Blednykh of Russia, who remained a touch away from his preceding swimmer, acquired fifth
position of the event, by ending his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 12.90 seconds.
Kyuwoong Choi of Korea emerged as the sixth position holder of the event, as he posted a time of 2 minutes and 13.23 seconds. Choi was trailed by George Klein of USA, who earned seventh spot of the event with a timing of 2 minutes and 13.48 seconds.
Conversely, Irie remained dominant for the gold crown of back-stroke swim, as he clocked a time of 1 minute and 56.01 seconds. He was trailed by Rexford Tullius of USA, who earned the silver medal of the event in a time of 1 minute and 58.66 seconds. Gareth
Kean of New Zealand was the bronze medallist of the event, as he produced a time of 1 minute and 58.74 seconds.
Cody Chitwood of USA was the fourth finest finisher of the event, as he clocked a time of 1 minute and 59.48 seconds. Artem Dubovskoy of Russia was the fifth best swimmer of the event, as he posted a time of 1 minute and 59.51 seconds.
He was trailed by Matthew James Swanston of Canada, who claimed sixth position of the event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 59.54 seconds. Anton Anchin of Russia was seventh finisher, as he ended his swim in 1 minute and 59.74 seconds.
The crowd was excited after the gold winning effort of Snyders and Titenis in the breast-stroke swim, while the winners were invited on the podium for the medal ceremony.
