Glenn Snyders and Allison Schmitt impress in Berlin:  2011 FINA World Cup
New Zealand’s Glenn Snyders and United States’ Allison Schmitt gave their breathtaking performances on day one of the seven stop 2011 FINA World Cup series in Berlin, Germany, on Saturday, October 22. The session of the competition conducted the Men’s 50m
breast-stroke and Women’s 200m freestyle events.
Glenn Snyders of New Zealand thrashed down Netherlands’ Robin Van Aggele and Norway’s Aleksander Hetland by touching the finishing wall in a nerve wrecking time of 26.88 seconds to clinch the Men’s 50m breast-stroke title. Meanwhile, Van Aggele earned silver
title by submitting a time of 27.07 seconds and Hetland earned bronze medal in a time of 27.10 seconds.
China’s Xiayan Li beat Russia’s Stanislav Lakhtyukhov for the fourth position by hitting the finishing wall in a mark of 27.11 seconds, while Lakhtyukhov settled for fifth position in a time of 27.22 seconds. In addition, Marco Koch of Colombia earned sixth
place in a time of 27.40 seconds. Marco Koch’s compatriot Erik Steinhagen settled for seventh position in a time of 27.47 seconds, whereas, Georgios Syrianos of Great Britain wound up eighth in 27.59 seconds.
The session of the meet saw another impressive swim, as Allison Schmitt of United States of America claimed Women’s 200m freestyle title by powering the finishing wall in a time of 1 minute and 52.08 seconds. In the meantime, Angie Bainbridge of Australia
earned silver medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 53.02 seconds and Missy Franklin of United States settled for bronze title with a mark of 1 minute and 53.26 seconds.
Daniela Schreiber of Colombia picked fourth position by posting a time of 1 minute and 54.41 seconds, while Silke Lippok of Colombia settled for fifth place in a time of 1 minute and 55.46 seconds. Additionally, the sixth place went to Great Britain’s Joanne
Jackson with a time of 1 minute and 55.60 seconds.
Moreover, Chelsea Chenault of United States of America claimed seventh spot by hitting the finishing wall in a matchless mark of 1 minute and 56.49 seconds. Pernille Blume of Denmark settled for eighth place in a time of 1 minute and 57.51 seconds. Last,
but not the least, both Glenn Snyders and Allison Schmitt took a huge round of applause from the crowd due to their inspiring swims and the best athletes were awarded accolades and cash prizes after the end of the session.
The current meet is round four of the seven stop 2011 FINA World Cup series, which is helping athletes to prepare hard for their futuristic events at the 2012 Olympic Games, in London. Singapore is scheduled to host the next round of the 2011 FINA World
Cup series from November 4-5.
