Glenn Snyders and Laszlo Cseh dominate swimming events: Day one – 2011 World University Games
Glenn Snyders and Laszlo Cseh dominated the men’s 200m breast-stroke and 200m butterfly respectively, on the initial day of the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China. The session included 200m breast-stroke, 200m butterfly, 200m back-stroke, 800m
freestyle and 50m freestyle in Men’s and Women’s category.
The opening event of the session was 200m breast-stroke, where New Zealand’s Snyders and Lithuania’s Giedrius Titenis, proved their eligibility for the gold crown by submitting a same time of 2 minutes and 10.85 seconds. They were followed by Kazuki Otsuka
of Japan, who posted a time of 2 minutes and 10.96 seconds for bronze medal.
The event was followed by Men’s 200m butterfly, where 2008 Beijing Olympic Games silver medallist, Laszlo Cseh of Hungary captured gold medal of the event in a time of 1 minute and 55.87 seconds. The Hungarian champion was 0.19 seconds ahead of his following
swimmer, Robert Bollier of USA, who acquired silver medal of the event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 56.06 seconds. The third spot was secured by Hidemasa Sano of Japan, who earned bronze medal of the event by reporting in a time of 1 minute and 56.81
seconds.
Then, the arena witnessed an immaculate effort of Ryosuke Irie of Japan, who captured the title of Men’s 200m back-stroke in a comfortable manner. Irie clocked a wonderful time of 1 minute and 56.01 seconds to achieve the gold medal. He was chased by Rexford
Tullius of USA, who followed him on the podium for silver medal, by producing a time of 1 minute and 58.66 seconds. They were followed by Gareth Kean of New Zealand, who won bronze medal of the event with a timing of 1 minute and 58.74 seconds.
The fourth event of the session was Women’s 800m freestyle, where Lauren Boyle of New Zealand topped the podium for gold medal with a timing of 8 minutes and 26.30 seconds. She was followed by Haley Anderson of USA and Melania Felicitas Costa Schmid of Spain,
who reached the podium for silver and bronze medals, with timings of 8:27.11 and 8:33.66 minutes, respectively.
Meanwhile, Ying Lu captured the title of Women’s 50m butterfly meet with a superb timing of 25.98 seconds. She was traced by Australian swimmers, Marieke Guehrer and Alice Mills, who gained second and third positions of the event, with timings of 26.24 and
26.53 seconds, respectively.
In addition, the day ended after the amazing efforts of all podium finishers, who struggled hard to secure impressive finishes in their respective events.
