Glenn Snyders clinches Men’s 100m breaststroke gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Glenn Snyders of New Zealand clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on day two of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Saturday, November 3.
The Kiwi swimmer demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the four-lap breaststroke discipline and proved his mettle for gold medal.
Snyders showed no leniency to his opponents in the sprint event as he reached the finishing blockade for the title.
With his unrelenting efforts in the event, Snyders outsmarted his opponents and surfaced on the wall for gold medal with a timing of 57.96 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Christian Sprenger of Australia, who stayed 0.10 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing end as second position holder by producing a time of 58.06 seconds.
Sprenger was chased by Shuai Wang, who stayed 0.36 seconds slower and occupied bronze medal of the event by clocking a time of 58.42 seconds.
Subsequently, fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Sean Mahoney of USA, who stayed 0.47 seconds slower and ended his race in fourth best place by producing a time of 58.89 seconds.
Mahoney was traced by Zhi Xie, who suffered a loss of 0.21 seconds from his foregoing finisher and submitted a time of 59.10 seconds for fifth position.
Xie was followed by Xiayan Li of China, who was only 0.18 seconds away from upsetting his foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 59.28 seconds.
Li remained 0.61 seconds faster from his preceding swimmer, Johaanes Skagius of Sweden, who tried hard to improve his position in the last lap, but was unable to do so. Skagius stayed prominently away from his former finisher and posted a time of 59.89 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Yunkun Huang of China, who stayed 1.01 seconds slower from Skagius and surfaced on the finishing end with an effort of 59.90 seconds.
In addition, Snyders was contented with his win in the breaststroke discipline and said that he would try to achieve the same in future.
