Glenn Snyders pockets Men’s 50m breaststroke gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Glenn Snyders of New Zealand pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 50m breaststroke on initial day of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2.
The Kiwi swimmer showered his expertise in the shortest breaststroke discipline and smothered hopes of his opponents by reaching the wall as fastest swimmer.
With his commendably strong start, Snyders strengthened his place for top spot on the podium. He showed no leniency to his opponents in the two-lap discipline and transpired on the finishing wall for gold medal with a timing of 26.64 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Christian Sprenger of Australia, who remained 0.10 seconds apart and cruised his way towards the finishing wall for silver medal by producing a time of 26.74 seconds.
Sprenger was followed by Shuai Wang, who stayed 0.12 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as third position holder with a timing of 26.86 seconds.
Subsequently, Wang was chased by Xiayan Li of China, who remained 0.06 seconds slower from his foregoing finished and ended his race in fourth place by submitting a time of 26.92 seconds for fourth position.
Li was chased by Igor Golovin of Russia, who stayed 0.32 seconds behind and made his way towards the finishing wall for fifth position by producing an effort of 27.24 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Johaanes Skagius of Sweden, who remained only 0.24 seconds slower from his former finisher and acquired sixth position by reporting an effort of 27.48 seconds.
Skagius was followed by Weijia s**+, who was only a stroke behind and posted a time of 27.73 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth finest spot of the race was obtained by Zhi Xie, who tried hard to improve his position in the playoff but failed to do so. Xie stayed 0.02 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and clocked an effort of 27.75 seconds.
In addition, the audience appreciated exhausting efforts of Snyders in the breaststroke discipline while he expressed his desire of continuing the same in remaining stops of series.
