Glenn Snyders seizes Men’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day three - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Glenn A Snyders of New Zealand occupied gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on day three of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Sunday, June 3.
The Santa Clara International is the final stop of 2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that provides a chance to the elite swimmers to compete with the best of USA before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 25-year-old Snyders served notice of his talent in the two-lap breaststroke discipline and occupied gold medal of the event. His alluring efforts and commendable start played a prominent role in his victory and he managed to outperform his strongest challenger over the finishing end.
With his nerve-wrecking speed, he succeeded in overpowering powerful efforts of Kosuke Kitajima of Coca Cola Japan and occupied gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 1 minute and 01.44 seconds.
The champion was followed by the Japanese star, Kitajima, who remained just 0.12 seconds apart and proved his eligibility for silver medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 1 minute and 01.56 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Christian Schurr Voigt of Mexico, who stayed marginally slower from his former finisher and hit the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 01.94 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Mihail P Alexandrov of Trojan Swim Club, who was 0.15 seconds behind and settled on the finishing end for fourth position with the timing of 1 minute and 02.09 seconds.
The 27-year-old Alexandrov remained 0.22 seconds faster from Scott W Weltz of Marin Pirates-PC, who finished fifth in the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 02.31 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was secured by Bernard H Johnson of Palo Alto Stanford, who remained only one stroke apart and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 02.58 seconds.
Johnson was followed by Nolan D Koon of California Aquatics, who secured seventh position with the timing of 1 minute and 03.14 seconds.
In addition, the winners received awards and accolades for their efforts after the session.
