Global Power notches a majestic victory in the Sussex Stakes at Delaware Park
The Thomas Amoss trained, Global Power, demonstrated what he was really made of when he aced the Sussex Stakes at Delaware Park on 21st July, 2012, under jockey, Abel Castellano Jr.
The son of Pulpit, out of mare Hidden Cat, tackled the 1 1/16 mile track efficiently and completed the race in 1 minute and 41.62 seconds, a neck before the McLean Robertson trained, Slip and Drive, whereas Abilio, under rider, Alan Garcia, claimed
the third spot.
The four-year-old runner led for most of the way and, kept the other runners at bay. He completed the quarter-mile in 24.13 seconds, half-mile in 47.83 seconds, six furlongs in 1 minute and 11.47 seconds, and crossed the 1 mile marker in 1 minute and
35.47 seconds.
The colt was challenged by Slip and Drive on the inside and Abilio on the outside, but he found an opportunity to break out of the pack, and then made steady progress toward the wire.
Owned by Luch Racing Stable, Global Power now has an overall record of 5-2-1 from 13 starts with career earnings worth $199,745.
The older division runner toned up a great deal from his performance in the Grade 3 Aristides Stakes at Churchill Downs on 2nd June, 2012, which covered a distance of six furlongs, where he finished a dismal seventh.
However, the runner blossomed in an Allowance Optional Claimer after that on 23rd June, 2012.
Hosted at Mountaineer, the race covered a distance of a mile. With jockey Deshawn Parker, he completed the course in 1 minute and 33.53 seconds, followed by Black Circle in second and Sneakin Thru in third place.
Over the course of his career, Global Power has mostly raced on dirt tracks, but he is demonstrating that he can handle the turf just as well.
He seemed comfortable with the distance of 1 1/16 miles, since he has prior experience on it.
On 4th June, 2012, he took on similar distance in the Grade 3 Ohio Derby at Thistledown, where he finished in seventh place under the command of rider, Jeffrey Sanchez.
