How do I really know ?

How changing my regular light bulbs to fluorescent light bulbs saves 300 pounds of carbon dioxide?

How is the test conducted?

  1. They don't know. It also takes more energy to produce the new bulbs than the old ones. It also places more toxic products, Mercury, into the enviroment.

  2. rentacop:

Is right It's all a conspiracy

The evil way these lights pay for themselves in 1 year and last about 5 years thats just a ripoff.

The other part of this evil conspiracy, if the ~80,000,000 homes in America switched to them, that would be 1600 mega watts per hour of use (using 20w lamp) the equivelent normal globe (100w) would use only 8000 mega watts hardly any saving at all?.... a mere 6400 mega watts

  3. Changing your lightbulbs won't do anything. It's all a conspiracy between the hippies, the Canadians and the flourescent lightbulb companies to make you pay $5 for a lightbulb instead of $0.50.

The only real way to combat Global Warming is to take over Canada and turn the thermostat down. They keep turning it up because they say they're cold. PUT ON A SWEATER, YOU STUPID MOOSE-LOVERS!!!

  4. All in mathmatics and comparison.

  5. You dont.

Mercury is a far more dangerous substance than CO2.

    Educated guesses.

  6. Yeah.. it's the d**n Canadians! Turning up their heaters to warm up...the wind blows through and warms us down here in the U.S.  McCain should invade Canada after he gets elected. Canada... "The 51st state".

  7. all i have to say is go to the link below and it will tell you how.

  8. No one knows.  Global warming is just a guess.,  No one can tell you if it will be warmer or colder 5 years from now.

The effects of co2 are far overblown.

  9. If you paid attention to global weather, you yourself would be able to tell things are changing. Places that never had snow, getting snow now. Polar ice caps are melting, summers are hotter, winters are colder. There are floods, nastier tornadoes, Earth quakes in larger number and stronger then ever....is the many ways they can tell.

Changing you light bulb  saves carbon, as each bulb uses more or less electricity. If you use  a light bulb that uses less electricity, means you saved in energy or it takes less hydro, which in turn creates less carbon to make supply your hydro

  10. It's a simple calculation.

They test how much energy each bulb consumes, and have statistics about how much people use light bulb.  So they know how much energy you save.

They also know how much CO2 power plants put out to make energy, because they've measured it.  It's an average, because there are different knids of power plants.

So, they take the energy you save, and they can figure out how much less CO2 the power plant puts out.

  11. Top 11 Warmest Years On Record Have All Been In Last 13 Years

ScienceDaily (Dec. 13, 2007) — The decade of 1998-2007 is the warmest on record, according to data sources obtained by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The global mean surface temperature for 2007 is currently estimated at 0.41°C/0.74°F above the 1961-1990 annual average of 14.00°C/57.20°F...

...Since the start of the 20th century, the global average surface temperature has risen by 0.74°C. But this rise has not been continuous. The linear warming trend over the last 50 years (0.13°C per decade) is nearly twice that for the last 100 years...

...2007 global temperatures have been averaged separately for both hemispheres. Surface temperatures for the northern hemisphere are likely to be the second warmest on record, at 0.63°C above the 30-year mean (1961-90) of 14.6°C/58.3°F. The southern hemisphere temperature is 0.20°C higher than the 30-year average of 13.4°C/56.1°F, making it the ninth warmest in the instrumental record since 1850.

January 2007 was the warmest January in the global average temperature record at 12.7°C/54.9°F, compared to the 1961-1990 January long-term average of 12.1°C/53.8°F...
