  1. No new taxes, please listen, No New Taxes.  Did you hear me, NO NEW TAXES.  Just in case you didn't understand:  NO #$@&! NEW TAXES.  Fortunately, I do not live in the granola state.

  2. "The tax would pull in an estimated $400 million a year, which makes it a model that other cash-strapped states will no doubt find enticing."

Let's hope this wildfire is extinguished before it spreads!

  3. I am in favor of it provided that they follow through on their promise to use the money to invest in public transit.  If they do that, then people in LA won't need to drive as much as they do, which means they will spend less on gas, and save money in the long run.

  4. just another way for the government to get money from the people. there is more than enough taxes on gas as it is, what they need to do is lower or better yet get rid of the high taxes on gas that would lower the cost of a gallon of gas significantly.  the government at all levels need less more and more left in the tax payers pockets.

those of you thinking that more taxes on gas or vehicles can pay my fair share and yours if you think it's a good idea.

  5. I think that it is stupid to charge a tax on gas for something that hasn't been proven. global warminbg isn't caused by carbon emissions because carbon is heavier than oxygen so it can't get into the atmosphere in the first place, global warming is a natural process.

  6. Forget about a GW tax!    How about just charging the real price for gas instead of having is subsidized in so many ways by the government?   With all the money the government pours into making sure we have a ready supply of fuel, the real price would be around $12 per gallon.   See who would still be driving those huge gas guzzlers then.

  7. the libs just want to tax everithing...

  8. Do not be sheep, watch this documentary.

  9. Sure, our gas prices are still way below those in Canada and Europe, and we need to do something to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.  I'd vote for it.

  10. This is ridiculous!  No!  This is not OK!  This is just another tax in the name of a fabricated cause just to siphon more money out of your pockets.  Keep prices low.  There's a reason why we've been so prosperous over the last century, and it's party due to inexpensive oil.  That's what makes the economy run.  Everything requires it.  And Lady, do know what will happen when you pass the tax on to the big bad oil companies, they pass it right back on to us.  They're a business.  When they incur costs, they must make up for them by charging more for their product.  The solution is simple.  No more taxes.  Goverment spending has gotten way out of control.  There are far too many wasteful programs that are inefficient, ineffective or both.  This is not about the government doing what's right, it's about them taking more money.  We need to heed the advice of our forefathers, more goverment isn't the answer, it's the problem.

  11. Absolutly! People should be taxed on the type of vehicle they drive. SUV- tax 'em! Hummer- tax 'em! Any gas guzzling vehicle should be taxed. Are you a 2 person (driver) household and have more than 2 vehicles..tax 'em! Those to chose to drive 'green' should get tax breaks.

  12. The tax would just be diverted to the prostitution fund.  Or they would give it to one of there buddy's to waste on a no result experiment.  Don't trust them with your money make them get it from finding wasted money on other projects.

  13. They should just have chevron and exxon-moblie pay that..they are already making tons of profit off us.

Plus, they have to prove global warming exists and that opens up a whole other can of worms..

  14. It's a reasonable-sounding idea, unreasonably implemented.

Don't tax one class of emissions (autos) to benefit another class (energy production), or the special interests will overcomplicate and undermine the system until no net gain is achieved but we're all paying a lot more for everything.  Taxes always get redirected by politicians over time, causing taxes to miss achieving their original goals (remember when the California Lottery was implemented to fund community colleges? All their prior funding was then stripped away, so there was no not gain, the new money simply became one more part of the gaint state slush fund.).

A transportation tax is regressive, affecting the cost of everything to everyone, with no compensating benefit.

Instead, why not penalize gas guzzlers and reward gas misers?  You'd get far more effectiveness, much faster, and most importantly you can have all payments net out to zero, for a result of no net cost to the economy.

Which side of the equation a person falls on would be entirely voluntary, based on their own choices.  Funds could be automatically calculated, collected and rebated to all vehicle owners during the annual vehicle registration process.

Incentives are the way to go, not taxes.

  15. Against it. 100% and anyone who isnt is either making more than the average citizen or is living off mommy and daddy for gas. second, what was it 20 years ago? scientists were shouting an ice age is comming. I dont think they have any clue whats going on. first it was (in my area) the next five years there will be drought in georgia!....its only the first year of that prediction and already we have gotten MORE rain then the average. not to mention....they say lakes are drying up.....and the oceans are rising.....if you ask me they are making guesses and trying to scare everyone....and I'll start walking before I pay one red cent based on a guess.

  16. personally i think its a crock of sh** , seriously tax this , tax that .i live in the u.s . and they say we are headed for a recession,i wonder why ,,, could it be we cant afford to live as it is ,if gas goes up so does everything else. i blame the government  100%,so when our country goes into another depression that may wake them up ?? hmmm probably not .
